Willow Glimmers

I took a big risk to paint this pair of willows much more loosely than I was used to,  and used viridian, a green color I'd avoided from my training in a limited palette.  Up till this point I had experimented with greens made with cerulean blue, ultramarine and cobalt.  I was taking a workshop from Marc Hansen, and he uses it expertly, so I caught on right away, mixing it with iron oxide red or orange for the muted greys of the willows.  The slanting morning light was so unusual above a blue-shaded streambed, I just had to try this!
